Founding
On May 4, 1974, Gary and Bonnie Stewart, along with Robert and Dotty Marks, acquired Sportsarama, an outdoor sporting goods store specializing in firearms, hunting, and fishing supplies. By 1978, the Marks sold their share to the Stewarts, who transformed the business into an athletic team sales company. The Stewarts continued to own and operate Sportsarama until February 1, 2007, when their son, Chad Stewart, took over the business. Today, Chad’s three sons—Chance, Tristen, and Brecken—have joined the team, ensuring that Sportsarama remains a proud, family-owned business for a third generation.
Sportsarama’s History with the University of Michigan
Our partnership with the University of Michigan began in 1986, when we had the privilege of designing and decorating the first-ever “bowl patch” for Michigan’s Fiesta Bowl. Over the next 25 years, we continued to enhance Michigan’s football and basketball apparel, contributing to the university’s athletic legacy.
In 1989, one of the basketball jerseys we decorated was presented to President George H.W. Bush following Michigan's NCAA National Basketball Championship victory. Nearly a decade later, in 1998, another of our jerseys was presented to President Bill Clinton after Michigan’s National Football Championship win.
Additionally, we have had the honor of providing uniforms for some of U of M’s most iconic athletes, including Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard, Tom Brady, Jim Harbaugh, and the Fab Five. Our longstanding relationship with the University of Michigan is a source of great pride, and we are privileged to have played a role in the success of these legendary athletes.
